“Democracy, elections, this is one thing, and if Belarus is threatened by an invasion of NATO troops or an attempt to intervene, some option like in Kiev, I think this should be prevented,” he said.

In his opinion, if the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko turns to Russia for military assistance, then it is necessary "to provide it immediately."

Zhirinovsky believes that Russia cannot allow "Western countries to impose the same regime in Belarus as in Kiev."

“It will be monstrous for us, this is our safety. I'm talking about this, not about Lukashenka, but about the security of Russia. We do not need NATO tanks near Smolensk, ”the politician said.

He stressed that Russia "needs to have its own secure western borders."

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced an agreement with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that Russia, at the first request, will help Belarus in ensuring security in the event of external military threats.

On August 16, the Kremlin announced that the Russian president, during a conversation with Lukashenko, confirmed his readiness to assist in resolving the arisen problems through the CSTO.
