my country's soil erosion situation continues to improve

Beijing, August 16th (Reporter Wang Hao) Recently, the Ministry of Water Resources completed the 2019 national soil erosion dynamic monitoring work. The results show that China's soil erosion situation continues to improve, the overall ecological environment is further stabilized, and the soil erosion has achieved area intensity "Double descent", water and wind erosion "double reduction".

Data show that the area of soil erosion in 2019 was 2,110,800 square kilometers, a decrease of 26,100 square kilometers from 2018, a decrease of 0.95%. Compared with the data of the first national water conservancy census in 2011, the area of soil erosion has decreased by 238,300 square kilometers, an overall decrease of 8.08%, and an average annual decrease of nearly 30,000 square kilometers.

In terms of type, the area of water erosion and wind erosion "double reduction". The area of water erosion decreased by 16,200 square kilometers compared with 2018, and the area of wind erosion decreased by 0.99 million square kilometers compared with 2018; from the perspective of intensity level, soil erosion showed a trend of transition from high intensity to low intensity, and the area of mild soil erosion was 1,705,500. Square kilometers, accounting for 62.92% of the total soil erosion area; moderate and above soil erosion area is 1,005,300 square kilometers, accounting for 37.08% of the total soil erosion area. In terms of regional distribution, the areas of soil erosion in the eastern, central and western regions all decreased compared with the previous year.

The situation of soil erosion in key national ecological protection and restoration areas continued to improve. The annual soil erosion area of the Northwest Loess Plateau, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Three Gorges Reservoir area, the Danjiangkou Reservoir area and its upper reaches, the black soil area of the northeast, and the rocky desertification area of the southwest, which are dominated by water erosion, has decreased by 1.28%— Between 1.91%. The annual soil erosion area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Three Rivers Source National Park, which are dominated by wind erosion, decreased by 0.55% and 1.27% respectively.

The reduction of soil erosion in key national-level control areas was significantly higher than that of other areas. The national key soil erosion prevention and control areas involve a total of 1090 county-level administrative districts. In 2019, the soil erosion area was 1,599,900 square kilometers, a decrease of 17,800 square kilometers from 2018, a decrease of 1.06%.

The situation of soil erosion in large river basins continued to improve. The area of soil erosion in large river basins such as the Yangtze River, Yellow River, Huai River (sector), Haihe, Pearl River, Songliao (sector), Taihu Lake, and Southwestern Zhuhe Rivers were all higher than the national overall reduction, and the intensity of soil erosion in each basin was moderate to light Degree-based. Compared with 2018, the area of moderate and above soil erosion in the Yellow River Basin has decreased by 7.37%. Compared with 2018, the area of severe and above soil erosion in the Yangtze River Basin further decreased, and the proportion of mild soil erosion increased by 3.28 percentage points. Slight soil erosion in the Huaihe River (slice) and Haihe River Basin accounted for more than 90%.
