Even if voters meet deadlines, millions of postal votes may not arrive in time to be counted in the 2020 presidential ballot , warns the US Postal Service (USPS) as an unprecedented number of postal votes is expected for the next election due to the Covid-19 pandemic .

Funding for the public mail service and the upcoming elections is the main sticking point in discussions between the White House and top Democratic Congressional officials over a new plan to support the United States economy , said Thursday (August 13). Donald Trump.

Barack Obama criticizes "  attempts to undermine the election  "

Lagging behind in the polls, President Donald Trump has launched a smear campaign against postal voting, which he fears will favor his Democratic opponent Joe Biden . “  Democrats know that the 2020 election will be a fraudulent mess. The Republican billionaire openly admitted this week that restricting the action of the US Postal Service, including limiting its resources before the election, would have an impact on postal voting procedures. He has repeatedly accused postal voting of potentially leading to large-scale electoral fraud, an unsubstantiated claim.

Former President Barack Obama has criticized  his successor's attempts to undermine the election ", saying on Twitter that the current government is "  more concerned with the suppression of votes than with a virus  ."

Everyone depends on the USPS. Seniors for their Social Security, veterans for their prescriptions, small businesses trying to keep their doors open. They can't be collateral damage for an administration more concerned with suppressing the vote than suppressing a virus.

Despite its warning letters to states, the USPS said it was "  well prepared and fully capable of delivering America's election mail  ," in a statement quoted by CNN .

Donald Trump, who votes by mail himself, has made it clear that he believes Democrats will garner more votes if the practice becomes widespread. The postal vote "  is not in favor of the Republicans  ", he declared in April.
