  • Report. 40 different species of birds give asylum to the Nile virus transmitted by mosquitoes
  • Crisis. 12 months to the limit: from listeria to Nile Fever through a pandemic

More than thirty people in the area of Coria del Río and La Puebla del Río (Seville) are suspected of having the Nile fever virus, of which 25 are hospitalized for viral meningoencephalitis, of which nine are in a Unit Intensive Care (ICU). Those admitted have increased by seven in 24 hours.

This was indicated yesterday to Europa Press by sources from the Ministry of Health, specifying that there are 31 cases between probable and confirmed . Of these, there are already 13 positive samples for Nile fever.

When the results of the tests were known, Health immediately activated the protocol that, among other measures, involves environmental control actions that include fumigation of the affected areas, since Nile fever is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito.

The Epidemiological Surveillance Service indicates that there is no person-to-person transmission and that said transmission is by sting. Thus, infection prevention measures in humans are based on avoiding mosquito bites.

To avoid mosquito bites it is recommended: use mosquito nets on windows and doors ; try not to stay outdoors between dusk and dawn; try to leave the light off; follow proper body hygiene daily; avoid strong perfumes; wear clothing that covers the skin as much as possible and shake it before use if it has been laid outside; make proper use of repellants, strictly following the recommendations on the mode and frequency of use described by the manufacturer. If you use sun cream, you must apply it first, allow it to absorb for twenty minutes, and then apply the mosquito repellent.

Several specialized companies have already started fumigation work in wetlands and parks in La Puebla del Río and Coria del Río. The Dos Hermanas municipality has also announced that it will do fumigation work.
