August 15, 2020 - The United States formalizes the sale of Jet F-16s to Taiwan, in a move designed to raise tensions between Washington and Beijing.

Taiwan, the American media reported, has formally signed an agreement to buy 66 F-16 aircraft: this is the first sale of advanced fighter jets since former President George W. Bush gave the green light to that of 150 F-16 in 1992.

Taiwan concluded the purchase of the fighters from the US company, Lockheed Martin with an agreement worth about $ 62 billion to be paid over 10 years.

The Pentagon announced the signing of the contract without specifying the name of the buyer country, but a source close to the dossier told AFP that it is indeed Taiwan.

Taipei had received the green light from Washington for the purchase and is now able to modernize its defense.
