Together with Kronoberg County, Sörmland has lost the least proportion of foreign visitors.

- It is mainly hotel stays that contribute to the big loss. But historically, there have been many foreign tourists who come to Sörmland with their motorhomes or caravans and stay over at campsites. Then people have been able to stick to themselves, which can contribute to a feeling of security and that people dare to come here, says Torbjörn Kock, process manager at Sörmland's tourist development (Stua).

Relieved German restrictions

At the same time, there are several other factors that contribute to Sörmland doing better compared to other counties. In Stockholm and Uppsala, nine out of ten foreign guest nights disappeared.

- Germany eased its travel restrictions in June and then we saw that more Germans came here. Then it is mainly the nature of Sörmland, the castles and manors that attract, he says and continues:

- Since then, Sörmland has also recently seen a downward trend in corona infection. I think people have chosen destinations according to where the pandemic has been widespread or not.

"Unable to catch up"

During the spring and summer, Stua has been in contact with several local entrepreneurs, and the indication from them is that there has been an increase in the number of bookings during July, and that it has been moved into August because people have holidays during this period.

- But the loss can not be made up completely. But it definitely looks better for July and August than we previously feared. But we will know for sure later, when we get those numbers, says Torbjörn Kock.
