Egyptian and Sudanese stress on reaching a "binding agreement" in the issue of the Renaissance Dam

Yesterday, at the conclusion of a visit by the Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, to Khartoum, Egypt and Sudan confirmed that negotiations are the "best way" to solve the Renaissance Dam issue, which raises a dispute between the two countries and Ethiopia, and stressed the need to reach a binding agreement.

The two sides said, in a statement read by the Sudanese Minister of Culture and Information, Faisal Muhammad Salih: "Negotiations are the best way to solve the issue of the Renaissance Dam and (the countries) are looking forward to the success of the negotiations sponsored by the African Union."

The statement added, "The two parties see the need to reach a binding agreement that guarantees the rights and interests of the three countries in accordance with the Declaration of Principles Agreement signed in 2015 and the principles of international law, provided that it guarantees an effective and binding mechanism for settling disputes."
