The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Matar Muhammad Al Tayer, announced that 77% of the two pilot stations for public transport bus passengers have been completed in the Oud Maitha and Satwa areas, and all works are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Al Tayer said: “The establishment of public transport bus passenger stations comes as a continuation of the authority’s efforts in developing the infrastructure for the mass transit system, to encourage residents to use mass transportation in their daily commute.”

He pointed out that the two new stations are distinguished by their unique, modular design that combines innovative and effective solutions for engineering designs, and the introduction of a new concept in mass transportation, taking into account the modern system, sustainability requirements and requirements of people of determination, and harmony with the identity and form of the RTA stations.

This came while inspecting the work progress in the two stations via remote technology, and listening to an explanation from the engineers in charge of the project, as the foundations and concrete structure of the building were completed at the Oud Metha station, which extends over an area of ​​9640 square meters, and its location is characterized by a high population density due to its proximity to the station. The station serves many bus lines, the most important of which are the two lines coming from Dubai Academic City and the International City, and the station consists of a ground floor, three floors and a roof for vehicle parking, and the design of this station took into account the integration with the public transport system in the region, where stops were allocated for buses, private vehicles and taxis.

The average number of passengers is expected to reach 10,000 passengers per day, and it includes 10 operational bus stops, 11 public transport bus stops, and 316 vehicle parking spaces, and the station’s facilities include a passenger loading and unloading area, parking and emergency bus stops, taxi parking lots for employees and visitors, and parking for bicycles. Air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned umbrellas, equipped public lounges, a prayer room (for men), a prayer room (for women), offices for employees, public toilets, a special corner for children, as well as sites for self-service and electronic payment devices, Nol cards devices, and an appointment display device. The station's capacity is currently estimated at 7,800 passengers per day, and in the future by more than 15,000 passengers per day, and it includes 15 operational bus stops and 14 bus rest stops, and the station’s stops accommodate nearly 227 vehicles.

It should be noted that the authority is currently implementing 17 public transport stations to serve Expo visitors, including seven permanent stations distributed in the areas: Al Jafiliya, Al Ghubaiba, a communication station in Al Qusais, Al Ittihad station in Deira, Business Bay 2, Al Baraha and Ibn Battuta, in addition to four stations. Temporary in: Dubai Silicon Oasis, International City, Business Bay 1, Palm Jumeirah, and six stops: in Meydan, Dubai International Airport, Al Maktoum International Airport, Al Jaddaf, Dubai Maritime City and Dubai Mall, and the bus stations will be integrated into the Dubai bus network after the event ends .
