The number of people in the world who have been infected with covid-19 is approaching 21 million. At the same time, the number of deaths has exceeded 750,000 since the corona virus was discovered last year.

Since country after country in the spring took measures or shut down their communities to curb the pandemic, the virus spread now seems to have gained new momentum in many places.

On Friday, several countries reported an increased number of cases of covid-19, with Peru and Mexico passing 500,000 corona cases with 25,600 and 55,000 deaths, respectively.

Paris high-risk area again

The French government announced, among other things, that the country has received over 2,500 new cases of covid-19 in the past 24 hours, and that the cities of Paris and Marseilles are red zones again and thus again classified as high-risk areas, according to Reuters.

Local authorities thus have the power to restrict the movement of people in cities, restrict access to public buildings and are forced to close certain types of activities.

At the same time, Spain announces that 2,935 covid-19 cases have been registered in the country in the last 24 hours, which is the highest figure since April.

As a result, all regions of Spain have agreed to close the nightclubs completely and that restaurants and bars must close by 01 o'clock, reports Reuters. A smoking ban will also be introduced in public places if distances cannot be maintained.

Greece faces maximum limit

On Friday, Greece also issued new restrictions after an increased spread of infection, which on Wednesday reached the highest figure ever, was noted in parts of the country.

Among other things, the country introduces a temporary maximum limit of 50 people for crowds. Restaurants and bars are also forced to close at midnight. The measures, which will be introduced in the middle of the burning tourist season, will apply until 24 August in those parts of the country where the number of confirmed infections has increased.

The new limited opening hours will apply in Athens, Crete, the Paros Islands, Santorini, Rhodes, Kos, Antiparos and Zakhyntos, among others, according to Reuters.

At the same time, New Zealand has registered the first domestic covid-19 cases in 100 days, which on Friday amounted to 30 people.
