The bodies of the six French humanitarian workers killed on Sunday in an attack by armed men in Niger will be repatriated this Friday to French territory. A tribute ceremony will be organized at Orly airport in the presence of Prime Minister Jean Castex, the Elysee reported on Wednesday.

The ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. in the presence of families. The six victims, four women and two young men, worked for the NGO Acted. They were killed with their Nigerien driver and guide while they were on an excursion in the Kouré giraffe reserve, 60km south-east of the capital Niamey.

"Do not let this heinous crime go unpunished"

"France will take care not to let this heinous crime go unpunished", assured the Prime Minister on Tuesday. President Emmanuel Macron had described him as "clearly terrorist".

The French Foreign Ministry on Wednesday placed all of Niger - with the exception of Niamey, the capital - in the red zone.
