In total, 10,773 people died in the capital in July, which is 716 more than in July 2019. According to the Department of Health, the overall excess of mortality in relation to the average July indicators for the past three years was 1,040 cases.

"COVID-19 as the main or concomitant cause of death was noted in 1 706 cases, which justifies all excess mortality in July," the department noted.

At the same time, the infection became the main cause of death of 742 people.

"Among them are cases when, with a negative test (both during life and posthumously), according to the results of postmortem examination and clinical signs, the cause of death was determined to be a coronavirus (141 people)," the department explains.

At the same time, another 964 people in the capital died in July from other causes, but with a positive test for coronavirus.

"At the same time, covid had a significant impact on the development of the underlying disease and its fatal complications in 466 cases (diseases of the circulatory system - 418, respiratory diseases - 28, other diseases - 20)," the message says.

The mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said that in Moscow, statistics on mortality from coronavirus took into account “not only those who had a positive test, but also those who had a clear clinical picture. 

At the end of May, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova announced that in Russia all the causes of death, "which are somehow related to the impact of COVID-19," were divided into groups.
