After Russia and Great Britain, Germany

Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel saw each other for the last time on July 21, when they concluded, with a joint press conference, a European summit where the 27 had reached an agreement, described as "historic", on a recovery plan post-coronavirus, based for the first time on a common debt.

The € 750 billion plan was approved on the fifth day of intense negotiations between the Chancellor, whose country currently chairs the EU, and the French president.

Angela Merkel's visit to Fort Brégançon follows those of Russian President Vladimir Putin in August 2019 and British Prime Minister Theresa May the year before. Located in the town of Borme-les-Mimosas (Var), the fort, owned by the State, allows the French President to receive his guests in a setting that is both majestic and relaxed.
