The Casa de Beneficencia de Teruel , a four-story building with an area of about 18,000 square meters, dates from the 18th century and after the civil war it was renamed Hogar Comandante Aguado , which is how it is known today.

The Teruel Provincial Council, owner of the property, gave it to the Government of Spain to install the National Museum of Ethnography.

After investing 13 million euros , of the 28 planned in the project, the building reverted in 2018 to the Provincial Council after the Government of José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero discarded the project of the aforementioned museum.

The return of the property of the building materialized at the request of the General Directorate of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture who considered that, "after a review of the situation and background of this project, it has been considered that the Museum should be rejected since its achievement is not currently viable from a technical or functional point of view as it requires a very high investment both for its execution and for its opening and activity ".

The building has been in disuse for decades and is in serious disrepair, which increases the risk of accidents in the event of stealth entry.

For this reason, the Teruel Provincial Council approved this Thursday to allocate a portion of the 2019 surplus to carry out works to prevent the clandestine entry of young people.

The president of the Provincial Council, Manuel Rando , pointed out this Thursday that, in an inspection to verify the situation of the property, "dangerous" practices with "satanic signals" that mark routes in the building have been detected .

The events have been reported to the National Police and the Civil Guard and, although there is no record of any detainees, some of these young people have been identified.

In statements to the media, Rando has specified that, despite the fact that access to the interior is "very risky", the occasional presence of people to carry out activities that may be "worrying" is still detected, a danger aggravated by the risk of accidents due to building degradation.

Apparently, the authors of the mentioned rites entered through a window sliding from the roof of a nearby building.

The president of the Provincial Council has acknowledged that there is no forecast to reuse the old hospice given its large dimensions and the "huge investment" that would be required to adapt it to new uses.
