The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced that the Hijri New Year holiday of 1442 in the federal government of the country will be on Sunday, August 23, and that work will resume on Monday, August 24.

On the fifth of March 2019, the Council of Ministers approved a decision determining official holidays in the government sector for the years 2019-2020, during which the private sector was granted similar official holidays, with a total of 14 days an annual official holiday for both sectors together.

According to the decision, the list of official holidays approved by the government for public and private sector employees included New Year's Day (on January 1), Eid al-Fitr (four days from the 29th of Ramadan to the third of Shawwal), the Arafah pause, and Eid al-Adha (four days from 9-12). State employees (government and private) will have three official holidays during the current year, after the Hijri New Year holiday, the first is the Mawlid al-Nabawi holiday (one day on the 29th of next October), and the second is the Day of the Martyr (one day on the first of December), while the last one is a holiday National Day (two days, the second and third of December).

She stated that the only exception to the compensation for a day off any of the events mentioned in the law is if this vacation coincides with the weekly holiday (Friday), because the Federal Law on Organizing Work Relationships and its executive regulations did not provide for them what provides for compensation for official holidays if they coincide with the weekend Unless a formal decision is issued by the cabinet or the competent minister to give another day instead.
