Ivory Coast: the opposition demands the withdrawal of the candidacy of Alassane Ouattara

In Côte d'Ivoire, the opposition is stepping up together. Several political platforms close to Henri Konan Bédié, Laurent Gbagbo, Guillaume Soro or even Charles Blé Goudé spoke on Wednesday, August 12. By mutual agreement, these movements demanded the withdrawal of Alassane Ouattara's candidacy and profound changes to the Independent Electoral Commission as well as to the brand new electoral list which has just been published.

Maurice Kakou Gikahué is clear. As it stands, the executive secretary of the PDCI believes that the October ballot cannot be held. The opposition accuses the CEI of having manipulated the list with the help of the Voodoo Communication agency.

Daniel Aka also speaks of thousands of foreigners, people who are too young, too old or even duplicates found among voters . The leader of the Ivorian Workers' Party therefore calls for a radical change in the CEI. The opposition demands the immediate resignation of the chairman of the electoral commission because of his obvious failure  ."

The litigation of the list ended on Tuesday. According to Emile Ebrottie, spokesperson for the CEI, the remedies are there for that. Foreigners added? The opposition must provide proof of this,  " he said. Deaths, infants, duplicates? All this could be due " to  clerical errors that can be  easily corrected thanks to litigation ", specifies Emile Ebrottie.

The spokesperson also denies any participation of Voodoo Communication in the establishment of the electoral list. Another source adds that the Commission has no contract with the company.

As for the candidacy of Alassane Ouattara , "  it could lead to a crisis of exceptional gravity  " announces the opposition. It's a dangerous game so we are really saying that the government is getting its act together while social peace is in its hands  ", warns Danièle Boni-Claverie, the president of the Republican Union for Democracy who denounces the dispersion of the demonstrations while marches from both camps are to be held this Thursday.

The power, he repeats that the candidacy of the president is authorized following the adoption of the constitution of 2016.
