On August 12, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Azasso headed a delegation to complete the trip to Taiwan. A "political show" that lasted for four days increased the risks of Sino-US relations and cross-strait relations, and made the pretense of "hygiene" seem lame.

After the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States in 1979, the three Sino-US joint communiqués stipulated that all forms of official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan should be stopped. This is also the basis for the development of Sino-US relations and cross-strait relations. Today, Azza’s visit to Taiwan has repeatedly emphasized that he is the “highest-ranking member of the U.S. Cabinet” who has visited Taiwan since 1979. As the most important and sensitive link in Sino-US relations, Taiwan has once again been pushed to the forefront.

The spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council Ma Xiaoguang pointed out on the 12th that US Secretary of Health Azza’s visit to Taiwan violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques. We firmly oppose it. The DPP authorities took the opportunity to write political articles, "seeking independence with the epidemic," but it was just a farce.

United States: "Political Show" hits the bottom line to shift contradictions

For the United States, where the global epidemic is the worst, this trip under the guise of "health" is more like a "political show" to shift pressure when the US presidential election approaches.

At present, the cumulative number of confirmed cases of the new crown in the United States exceeds 5 million, which is the country with the largest number of confirmed cases in the world, including the White House National Security Adviser O'Brien; the death toll exceeds 160,000.

Azza, who is in charge of health and epidemic prevention work, shoulders a heavy responsibility. The top priority is not to improve epidemic prevention measures and protect people's lives and health, but to travel across the ocean to Taiwan to exchange anti-epidemic experience, and to question mainland China’s efforts to fight the epidemic with the leaders of the Democratic Progressive Party. .

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said bluntly that if countries in the world fight the epidemic the worst, I am afraid that it is Minister Azhar. He criticized China because he wanted China to be a "scapegoat" for the United States' failure to fight the epidemic.

Taiwan, which prides itself as a "model student in the fight against the epidemic," has recently experienced repeated epidemics, and has frequently been questioned by the outside world about "under-testing," "differential treatment," and "politics over human rights." How can such experience help the United States in epidemic prevention?

Besides, is the visit of the US Minister of Health really for "health"? A big question mark must be put here.

During his visit to Taiwan, Azar gave a speech at National Taiwan University to condole the former leader of Taiwan, Lee Teng-hui, known as the "Father of Taiwan Independence," and visited the National Palace Museum in Taipei at night. All these actions seem to have forgotten that this trip is in the name of "hygiene".

As the U.S. election approaches, the country’s politicians use to contain China’s development in order to serve the election campaign. They are doing everything they want. They face China from multiple levels to smear and provoke opposition, and they use intensification of the Taiwan Strait issue as their usual means. Since Trump took office, he has signed a number of Taiwan-related bills, including the so-called "Taiwan Travel Act" that encourages exchanges of visits between "officials" at all levels between the United States and Taiwan. After the "military plane flew over Taiwan" and "sold arms to Taiwan," the visit of the Minister of Health became the latest "Taiwan card" played by the United States.

In an interview, Teng Jianqun, director of the American Research Institute of the China Institute of International Studies, pointed out that the US's continuous increase in the disruption of the Taiwan issue is part of its overall strategy to pressure mainland China. The purpose is obviously to anger mainland China and ease the United States. Pressure from a series of problems such as unfavorable domestic epidemic control, unfavorable election conditions, and economic downturn.

"Stop political shows and concentrate on saving the lives of the American people. This is the job of a health secretary." Zhao Lijian said: "We look forward to him showing his true strength as soon as possible to contain the domestic epidemic as soon as possible."

DPP authorities: fake "exchanges" and really "seeking independence" gain risks

As far as Taiwan is concerned, the DPP authorities originally had high expectations for this trip to Azar, but at the end of the trip it will find that it is only a "double harvest" in terms of the risk of the epidemic and the risks of cross-strait relations.

According to Taiwan media reports, in response to the US’s visit to Taiwan, Taiwan’s “Pandemic Epidemic Command Center” responded in a “bubble” mode to avoid 14-day quarantine. The DPP authorities, which claim to be strictly guarding against the epidemic, did not hesitate to open the door to a group of people from the most severely affected countries in the world, making this trip in the name of "hygiene" inherently a hidden danger of epidemic prevention.

People on the island of Taiwan expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangement. Netizens questioned "Isn't the life of Taiwanese fate?" New Taipei City councillor Ye Yuanzhi satirized the DPP authorities' "double standard" with the term "beautiful bubbling". He questioned the "double standards" of this arrangement, and emphasized that "the US epidemic is very serious. Why make an exception for the US Secretary of Health?"

Choosing to conduct "epidemic prevention exchanges" with the United States, is it "experience" or "lessons" that Taiwan can learn?

The two sides signed the so-called "Memorandum of Understanding on Medical and Health Cooperation" at the press conference, and did not mention a word about the vaccine that Taiwan urgently needs, nor did they make any specific commitments on the supply of the most-needed drug Redecivir. According to media reports, the Taiwan authorities have been eagerly looking forward to the rejection of the US-Taiwan Free Trade Agreement (FTA), but they are being threatened again-the import of US beef and pork should be opened as soon as possible.

Taiwan’s "United Daily News" commented directly that at the press conference, "true friends, true progress" and other scenes were flying everywhere. Whenever vaccines were mentioned, the United States responded in standard Mandarin, with only one "empty" word to describe.

The DPP authorities, which cooperated with the US to perform this "political double", continue to conceal their incompetence by creating cross-strait antagonism in order to achieve the purpose of consolidating their governance. Li Peng, the dean of the Taiwan Research Institute of Xiamen University, analyzed and pointed out that the DPP authorities attempted to deceive the people by hyping Azar's visit to Taiwan, creating the illusion of a "breakthrough" in US-Taiwan relations. "And this will only put Taiwan in greater danger."

Now, with the end of Azza's visit to Taiwan, the situation in the Taiwan Strait has become more tense. Kuomintang "legislator" Wu Sihuai said with concern that the history of the United States abandoning its allies at junctures of national interest is plausible. Taiwan considers itself an important pawn on the American chessboard. Once China and the United States "tear their faces", Taiwan may become an abandoned pawn.

After a well-prepared "big show", the United States has not seen internal conflicts shifted, but it has fueled Sino-U.S. relations and cross-strait relations; the DPP authorities have gained more than a nominal "breakthrough". It is a rising security risk.
