British writer Martin Keitel said that Democratic candidate Joe Biden's choice of Kamala Harris as his running mate if he wins the next US presidential election, may be due to his aspiration for Harris to become president of the United States in 2024.

Keitel explained in an article in the British newspaper (The Guardian) that after US President Donald Trump and the "Covid-19" pandemic, there will be great work for everyone in the new administration, and the main reason for choosing Harris is Biden's age, as this Democratic candidate will turn 78 years old. Next November, he himself had previously hinted that he might serve one term only, and described himself as a transitional figure in the party, paving the way for a new generation.

Either way, the writer says that Harris has now become - overnight - the supposed Democratic presidential candidate after Biden, and that gives her a lot of strength and seriousness.

The writer points out that the US government in a post-Trump and "Covid-19" phase will not be driven by the compass of the past, and that many in the Democratic Party understand this. Biden’s choice of Harris, like his approach to Sanders’s wing in politics, is an endeavor to unite a deeply divided party to defeat Trump is keeping up with the issues facing America and the world.

Keitel adds that Biden’s choice of Kamala Harris was bold and cautious, radical and conservative, and "it was likely a smart choice that revealed that this old pragmatist is ready to open up to new ways, which some may not have expected him to think."
