The World Health Organization said that it is looking forward to reviewing the clinical trials of the possible Russian vaccine against Corona, while several countries have returned to the policy of restrictions, such as Jordan, Turkey and Switzerland.

The international organization said that it is in contact with Russian scientists and the Russian authorities and looks forward to reviewing the details of the trials, stressing that it welcomes all developments in the ongoing research on anti-Covid-19 vaccines and in the field of vaccine development.

She added that any safe and effective pandemic vaccine would be a global public good, and she urges the World Health Organization to provide rapid, fair and equitable access to any such vaccines around the world.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Tuesday that his country is the first country to ratify a vaccine against Covid-19, although the final-stage tests, which include more than two thousand people, were scheduled to begin Wednesday.

Russia announced yesterday that the first batch of the vaccine, "Sputnik V", will be provided within two weeks to medical care workers, rejecting concerns of some experts regarding safety, as Moscow rushed to approve the drug and described it as "baseless."

Statistics

A Reuters count, Wednesday, showed that more than 20.44 million people have been infected with the emerging coronavirus worldwide, and that 742,880 people have died from the virus.

And HIV infections have been recorded in more than 210 countries and regions since the first cases were discovered in China in December 2019.

The United States topped the list, with 5 million and 163,765 cases and 164,598 deaths.

Brazil came in second place, with 3 million 109 thousand and 630 cases, and 103 thousand and 26 deaths.

India came in third place in terms of the number of injured, recording two million 329,638 injuries and 46,91 deaths.

Russia ranked fourth, with 902,701 deaths.

In Britain, the authorities reduced the death toll from Corona by about 5 thousand, to bring the total number to 41 thousand and 329, after conducting a review of the method for calculating deaths due to the Corona virus.

Every person who dies at any time after conducting a corona virus test, with a positive result, was added to the death toll from Corona, regardless of the cause of death.

Tightening restrictions

In Switzerland, the authorities extended the ban on gatherings of more than a thousand people until the first of October, to allow them from that date under strict conditions, such as the ability to track the participants in the gathering, in order to ensure that "the epidemiological situation does not deteriorate."

The ban on gatherings was supposed to end at the end of this month, but it was extended for an additional month, and the wearing of the muzzle will become mandatory on airplanes on all flights from Saturday, according to what the federal government decided.

In Turkey, the authorities postponed opening educational institutions for about a month, at a time when the country records more than a thousand injuries daily.

Education Minister Diaa Selcuk said in a press statement that "schools will resume their activities through distance education on August 31," expressing his hope that lessons in schools will gradually resume as of September 21.

Schools and universities were closed in March, before the authorities extended their closure until the end of the school year.

Turkey recorded a total of 243,180 injuries and 5,873 deaths, according to official figures published on Tuesday.

In Jordan, the Minister of Interior, Salama Hammad, decided on Wednesday to close the Jaber border crossing with Syria for a week, starting from Thursday, after injuries were recorded among workers at the border post, according to an official Jordanian source.

During the past two days, Jordan recorded 25 new cases of the new Corona virus, most of which were at the Jaber border crossing with Syria, after the infections were limited to Jordanians returning from abroad and residing in quarantine places.

As of Monday evening, the number of people infected with the virus in Jordan reached 1283, of whom 1189 had recovered, while 66 infected people were still receiving treatment in two specialized hospitals, while the number of deaths reached 11.

In Egypt, the Ministry of Health and Population announced the registration of 129 new cases of Coronavirus and 26 deaths yesterday, Wednesday, down from 168 cases and 24 deaths on Tuesday.

In Lebanon, injuries among Palestine refugees increased, as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced on Wednesday, that the number of injured has risen to 148, after 15 cases were recorded.

In Israel, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday evening that it had recorded 13 deaths and 1,003 cases of Coronavirus.

The ministry stated that the total deaths from the virus rose to 639, while the number of infections reached 87,878, according to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
