Fujairah Court fined two vessels 5,000 dirhams each for causing pollution of the waters of the beaches of Kalba and Fujairah and seizing the two vessels until compensation for the affected authorities in the state, with a damages value of 14 million dirhams.

The details of the case are due to the flow of large quantities of diesel into the sea water, following the collision of two commercial ships in the waters of the Emirate of Fujairah, which led to pollution of the sea and the spread of pollution to the shores of Kalba and Fujairah, causing severe damage.

Earlier, the court hired a translator fluent in translating the language of the defendants, and by asking the captain of one of the ships about the reason for his collision with the other ship, he said that the vision was not clear, and almost non-existent due to the lack of sufficient lighting, so he could not see the other ship due to the complete darkness.

The court faced him on charges of causing pollution to the sea and beaches of Fujairah and the city of Kalba, and he admitted that he had not taken sufficient measures that would have prevented the occurrence of pollution.

When the court asked the second captain, he denied the accusation against him, indicating that he had taken all measures to avoid any contamination.

While the defense attorney of the first accused demanded that the decision to seize the merchant ship belonging to its client be rescinded, noting that the seizure decision had a negative effect on the losses it caused to the accused, the court committee accepted the request with rejection until the completion of the court sessions.

The attorney for the civil claimant insisted on keeping the two merchant ships under the seizure decision, due to the great financial losses they caused until the judgment is issued.
