12 August 2020A train derailed in north-east Scotland, in an area hit by floods in recent days. This was announced by the police for public transport, while the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, in a tweet spoke of an "extremely serious" accident, without however providing any death toll.

The incident took place in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire. According to British media, there are several injured in serious condition.

Some social media posts show pictures of smoke rising from the site of the derailment. Several ambulances and a medical rescue helicopter are parked in a nearby field.

UPDATE: About 30 emergency vehicles, including an air ambulance, are at the scene with more continuing to arrive.
