SVT's correspondents and foreign reporters sometimes work in war zones and insecure environments. Before each trip, they try to minimize the risks with a number of different safety measures, close communication and careful preparation and follow-ups. In addition, they receive an annual training in safety thinking and lifesaving.

Correspondents and reporters train in structured environments. The intention is that once a crisis situation arises, they should have a sense of recognition. The hope is that it will help them remember what they learned about, for example, cardiopulmonary resuscitation or how to stop blood flow from bullet holes and other deep wounds.

Foreign Reporter Johan Ripås was once involved in trying to save a man's life after an accident in Soweto outside Johannesburg in South Africa:

- Because of these courses, it was not so traumatic, he says.

See in the clip above how the training went last year.
