The airline Air Leap planned for a flight route between Kalmar and Bromma. But now the airline has decided not to continue with the investment, something that the Barometer was the first to tell.

- I fully understand their decision. The airlines are experts in knowing how the market responds. But it's incredibly boring. We want to start the route between Kalmar and Bromma, says Ronny Lindberg, Kalmar Öland Airport's airport manager and CEO of SVT.

The competition is tougher

The reason for the airline's decision is that the recovery in the number of air passengers has been slower than the company expected. In addition, SAS has resumed its traffic between Kalmar and Stockholm with a departure every day - something that makes the competition tougher.

The airline, on the other hand, announces that it does not rule out starting the route if the situation improves.

The airport is not threatened

Financially, the corona pandemic has hit Kalmar Öland airport hard. Virtually all staff are laid off at 60 percent and will remain so until the turn of the year - unless travelers' demand for air travel increases.

- As long as we do not have an increased need to staff in terms of time, the redundancies will remain, says Ronny Lindberg.

Ronny Lindberg says that they expect a loss of approximately SEK 13 million this year.

- We are an airport that has been at plus or minus zero since 2008. Our goal is to get us back there. That a company goes backwards happens, of course, but that does not mean that the airport is threatened, he says.
