However, the Moderates want to see a change - that the cars can instead stand for two hours free of charge - a way to further increase the rotation in the city's parking lots.

- A very good measure for the business community and the center in Eskilstuna should of course not be removed. We have seen a positive effect of the measure and it benefits our city and it is something we want to build on, says Jari Puustinen (M), municipal councilor.

According to calculations, the relief has so far cost the municipality around two million kronor in lost parking fees.

- At the same time, you have to set that sum against what it means in the form of increased sales for retailers, says Jari Puustinen.

A: The benefit must be considered

Is it good from an environmental point of view to get more car traffic into the city center?

- That the car is part of the Eskilstuna residents' life puzzle cannot be denied and more and more cars will be run on electricity or fossil-free fuels in the future.

The chairman of the municipal board, Jimmy Jansson (S), who sits in the political majority together with Jari Puustinen's moderates, does not want to comment today on whether the proposal is good or bad. But according to him, the total loss of revenue for a year is around SEK 20 million.

- Both the school and the elderly care need more resources and therefore the benefits must be carefully considered so that the cost goes to facilitate trade and not just temporarily offer job or residential parking. We can not rule out any efforts if we believe that they are beneficial to the business community, but we must also find money for them, he writes in a text message to SVT Sörmland.
