The PP-Cs group has presented a non-law proposal in the Basque Parliament so that Euskera is not considered a "priority" language when accessing public employment in the Basque Country.

The proposal, signed by the parliamentarian Laura Garrido , is the first that has been presented in the new Basque Chamber, dated August 6, -the Parliament was constituted on the 3rd in a clear attempt to anticipate Vox, whose only A member of parliament, Amaia Martínez , both during the electoral campaign and on her first day in the Chamber, set the issue of Euskera and her opposition to Castilian as one of the priorities for her throughout the legislature.

In previous legislatures, it has been a recurring theme for the PP to try not to discriminate against those who opt for public job offers in the Basque Country based on whether or not they know Basque. Hence the rush to introduce this issue into the parliamentary debate with its signature, and thus prevent Vox from appropriating issues that have so far been led by the popular in the Basque Parliament, now in coalition with Ciudadanos.

In the non-law proposal, PP-Cs ask that Parliament urge the Government to rectify " the excessive demand for Basque for access to public employment ", as well as a "change of course in the language policies implemented by nationalism "so that" Basque is not prioritized over technical training or experience ". In addition, they demand that the scores given to the knowledge of this language be modified to be considered merit in future PEOs, which would allow access to job offers "on an equal footing", they point out.

For example, in OPE to become a doctor in Osakidetza, Basque scores with 18 points if you have PL2, or 9 points if you have a lower level, PL1, while having a doctorate cum laude means 10 points , or a postgraduate master 10 points . Regarding other languages, English, French or German are scored with a maximum of 1.5 points each.

In the opinion of PP-Cs, the requirement of Basque to access public employment is "disproportionate" in relation to other merits in PEOs. Something that they describe as "clearly discriminatory". "Forcing all applicants for public employment to master Basque as an essential requirement to apply for a position is unfair not only with opponents, but also with many citizens who hope to receive the best public service regardless of the language they speak."

Parliamentarian Laura Garrido recognizes Basque as one of the main hallmarks "of the Basque Autonomous Community, but recalls that it is" everyone's heritage "and demands that it be left out of positions that" intend to use it as an element of partisan confrontation ".

It is no coincidence that the proposal is signed by Laura Garrido. The PP parliamentarian speaks Basque and, although other members of her party also speak Basque , such as Iturgaiz himself, it is Garrido who usually represents her party in gatherings or debates that take place entirely in Basque, as happened for example in the electoral debate of ETB 1 -the channel in Basque- in the last electoral campaign. In this way, PP-Cs want it not to be interpreted as an attack on the language itself, but on what they consider a "discriminatory" use.

"The idea is that the language in public employment is used logically and not as discrimination against those who do not know Basque", says Garrido.
