SVT Nyheter Västerbotten has made a small road trip along road 92 with reconnaissance in domestic football. The first stop was Bjurholm. Here, Bjurholms IF has closed down the football section, or rather the section has absolutely no football activity.

- Yes, it is tragic but that is it, says Gudrun Olofsson who sits on the football section's board.

- It has its causes. Neither parents nor children and young people want to get involved in football, she continues.

Limited groups in Åsele

We went on and ended up in Åsele. Åsele IF conducts football activities, but only in very limited age groups and no a-team.

- Just two years ago, we had a senior team together with Dorotea, but many players disappeared from the area and we could not continue. Now we have a girls team in a series system, says Bo Nilsson who trains the existing teams.

Dorotea hopes to get senior teams again

We ended our trip in Dorotea. Björnvallen was renovated just a year ago and got new artificial turf. Here, many teams train in different age groups, but the oldest are juniors and play in a junior series.

- We are happy that we can have a junior team. They are our future and we hope to eventually have a senior team in the league system, says Fredrik Edström, coach of the team.

Want to reduce travel

Storuman, Sorsele and Vilhelmina also lack representation teams and the football association in Västerbotten is well aware of the problem. The association has tried to make it easier for the domestic teams to keep their teams and now they focus on giving the junior teams better conditions to keep going.

- Among other things, we have redesigned the travel distribution so that the teams from the interior have more home matches, to reduce their travel to the coast, says Tord Marklund at Västerbotten's football association.
