A warning. Emmanuel Macron warned Wednesday against "any external interference" in Lebanon during a telephone interview with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, eight days after the explosion that devastated Beirut and provoked anti-government protests.

The French President recalled "the need for all the powers concerned to avoid any escalation of tensions, as well as any external interference and to support the establishment of a mission government in charge of managing the emergency", the Elysee said in a press release.

Monday evening, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, called for "the rapid formation of a government which will prove itself to the population".

The resignation of the Lebanese government on Monday did not appease the anger of the Lebanese, also facing an economic crisis. On Tuesday, clashes broke out for the fourth night in a row between dozens of protesters and law enforcement near the seat of parliament in Beirut.
