Australia records the largest daily increase in "Corona" deaths ... and injuries are rising

Today, Australia recorded the largest daily increase in the number of deaths from the Covid-19 disease caused by the Corona virus since the start of its outbreak.

It also detected the largest increase in infections in three days, which dampened hopes that the second wave sweeping Victoria may stabilize.

In the past twenty-four hours, Victoria reported 21 deaths - two more than the most days in terms of the number of deaths, which was earlier this week - as well as 410 new cases of the virus, ending three consecutive days in which the number of infections decreased from 400.

A cluster of infections in Melbourne, the capital of Victoria and Australia's second largest city, last week forced authorities to impose a night-time curfew, tighten restrictions on people's daily movements and order large parts of the state's economy to shut down.

The authorities have not yet disclosed the national figures during the past 24 hours, but the virus has been effectively eliminated outside the two largest states, Victoria and New South Wales.

Authorities in New South Wales are struggling to trace the infection linked to a new group in a Sydney school, which has raised fears that it will spread more locally than was previously known in Australia's most populous state.

Australia has reported more than 22,000 infections and 352 deaths from the virus.
