She did not survive. A 72-year-old woman drowned Tuesday evening, around 8 p.m., while swimming near a beach in Mesquer, north of the Loire-Atlantique. A witness who was paddling at the time saw her in difficulty in the ocean and managed to bring her back to the sand. Other swimmers then gave a cardiac massage, before being relayed by the firefighters. In vain.

Drownings are unfortunately numerous every summer in France, even if this type of accident is down compared to last year. Last week, a 14-year-old teenager was killed while swimming in Loire-Atlantique, this time in a body of water.
