- There is no doubt that we at the National Museum must stop using "Eskimo", as it is perceived as degrading by many of those who live in these areas from which many of the objects that the National Museum has collected come.

This is what the museum director Martin Appelt said at the National Museum in Copenhagen when they decided at the end of July to remove the word "Eskimo" from the exhibition "Eskimos and Greenland".

The word has caused debate both inside and outside the Arctic regions. Greenlandic Inuit Vivi Vold thinks the concept is problematic.

- We do not get the chance to decide what we will be called, but it is people from outside who decide it, she says.
