Nor is 2020 being a good one for Podemos. It is true that it is a party accustomed to living in entanglement and in the focus of controversy since it was born, but for a few months now it has been cornered by scandals.

The purples monopolize many more headlines for their troubles and the various investigations that affect them in the courts than for their tasks or government action, and this fully reaches their leader, Pablo Iglesias, who is directly involved in the so-called Dina case . He began by presenting himself to public opinion as a victim of the state sewers and now he has the judge deciding if he could have committed a crime or if it was a "setup".

The Dina case has put the credibility of a substantial part of the political discourse of Iglesias and Podemos on the ropes, but, as if that were not enough, two other fronts have recently been opened to the purple party for alleged irregularities in the payment of your expenses, which also call into question the cleanliness of your accounts and your performance.

The Court of Accounts recently discovered accounting deficiencies, unjustified invoices, irregular expenses and even prohibited by law in the electoral accounting of Podemos for the last general elections of April 28. This was alerted in a harsh report, advanced by EL MUNDO last Friday, August 7, where he warned of accounting irregularities in items that reach 425,037.41 euros.

The facts, according to the Court of Auditors

Of these, the audit court expressly underlined an invoice for expenses "that have not been duly justified" and that amounts to 133,100 euros. The explanations by Podemos, after being sued by the Court of Auditors, have been considered insufficient.

In the case of the irregularities of the campaign, all suspicions are directed at the role played by the company Neurona Consulting , a company with tentacles and good influence in the countries of Chavista orbit, with which Podemos worked during that election campaign in April of 2019 in exchange for an outlay of 363,000 euros.

The Court of Accounts has serious doubts about the veracity of the services provided by Neurona and the justification of the invoices presented by Podemos.

In parallel, Antiblanqueo has also set its eyes on these contracts, as EL MUNDO reported on Monday. Last May, the Executive Service of the Commission for the Prevention of Money Laundering (Sepblac) sent a "financial intelligence report" to the National Police and the Civil Guard alerting to the links between Podemos and Neurona. It is dated May 25 and is registered under number 4048/2020.

From Neurona to an account in Mexico

It explains that the purple party gave about 400,000 euros to this company "shortly after its constitution in March 2019" and that later the vast majority of all that money (308,257 euros) ended up in a Mexican account.

César Hernández , one of the founders of Neurona, is being investigated for an alleged case of diversion of public funds in Bolivia, while the administrator of the account appears dotted with the so-called Panama Papers , Sepblac warns.

The issue is that Neurona has been pointed out by the former coordinator of the Podemos legal team, José Manuel Calvente , as an alleged form of illegal financing through the company and the microcredits that its supporters lend for electoral campaigns and then later they are returned when Podemos collects the grants.

Calvente assured that "the simulated contracts" with Neurona were used to "finance foreign parties and, possibly, Podemos as well, through microcredits," according to Libertad Digital .

"They cannot deny that there were irregularities"

In recent days, Calvente has spoken out on these latest news that emerged around Neurona to stress that the company's corporate purpose does not coincide with the services contracted by Podemos and that the provision of some of the contracted services was not proven either.

"They can no longer deny that there were financial irregularities, that Monica Carmona and I were investigating them and that it is evident that they fired us for getting where they did not want us to get," he tweeted recently.

Calvente received an accolade at the end of July because he won over Podemos in the courts the complaint for sexual harassment that the Iglesias party used to fire him when, according to the then coordinator of the Podemos legal team, he was investigating the alleged irregularities.

The head of the Court of Instruction number 32 of Madrid filed the case presented by her former partner Marta Flor , who until recently represented both Iglesias and Dina Bousselham in the Dina case . Due to the internal chats of Podemos, it is suspected that the lawyer could receive confidential information from the prosecutor in the case during an alleged relationship.
