11 August 2020 Among the most common surnames in Milan there is a novelty: the Chinese Hu surpasses the Italian Rossi , even in the female ranking. This was announced by the Registry of Palazzo Marino in a note, formalizing the 'overtaking'.

As for the names, the Milanese parents remain faithful to the more traditional ones, even during the lockdown period - first half of 2020 - as has been the case since 2015.

For many of the new little residents in Milan, the choice of names fell on Leonardo , Sofia and Giulia. Among the 4,856 born from January 1st to June 30th of this year, 213 Leonardo, 108 Sofia and 106 Giulia stand out. Followed by Tommaso (153), Riccardo (123), Alessandro (122) and Lorenzo (120) among the male names, Ginevra (90), Alice (84) and Camilla and Beatrice (79) among the female ones.

Foreign mothers and fathers also prefer the name Leonardo (58), who last year was in fourth place behind Mohamed (34), who this year instead gave up the first position. Followed by Tommaso (28), Alessandro (25), Lorenzo (24). Among the choices for girls, Sofia (28) triumphs, ahead of Maria (21), Aurora (21), Ginevra (19), Sara, Giulia and Alice (18).
