Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius wrote it on twitter, speaking of the Belarusian opposition candidate in the presidential elections on Sunday, who was feared to have been detained by the authorities after having appealed to the electoral commission against the outcome of the vote, won by Aleksander Lukashenko amid allegations of fraud and fraud.

Second night of fighting, one dead
Meanwhile, even tonight there were clashes both in Minsk and in other cities of the country, where demonstrators protest against the re-election of Lukashenko, in power since 1994. A demonstrator died from the explosion of a bomb he was handling. Police fired rubber bullets into the crowd to disperse the protests and threw tear gas. The crowd chanted "Shame!" and "Long live Belarus". The police confirmed to the Russian agency TASS that they had arrested demonstrators and assured they had "the situation under control". According to Russian and Belarusian media, arrests are also underway in other cities of the former Soviet republic.

Spontaneous demonstrations had also taken place on Sunday evening, shortly after the announcement of the first official results of the vote, which gave the outgoing president largely in the lead with 80% of the votes. More than 3,000 people were arrested during the Sunday night protests, police said.
