In the second video message of the day, the presidential candidate of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called on her compatriots not to confront the law enforcement agencies.

It should be reminded that riots have been going on in the republic for two days, which began after the presidential elections. According to preliminary information, the current President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, received more than 80% of the votes, while about 10% of the country's citizens voted for Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.

In the new video, a presidential candidate in Belarus reads a text written on a sheet. In her address, she thanked her compatriots for participating in the elections and the support provided to her.

“Belarusians! I challenge you to prudence and respect for the law. I don't want blood and violence. I ask you not to confront the police, not to go out into the squares, so as not to endanger your lives. Take care of yourself and your loved ones, ”Tikhanovskaya said on the video.

Earlier, another video message was made public, in which Tikhanovskaya spoke about her departure to Lithuania. The fact of her whereabouts in this state was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linus Linkevichus. The presidential candidate of Belarus was granted a one-year visa and a place to stay.

In the first video published by the media, Tikhanovskaya noted that she had made the appropriate decision herself. According to her, neither friends, nor relatives, nor the headquarters, nor her husband could influence this step.

“People, take care of yourself, please. No life is worth what is happening now, "she said, adding that children are" the most important thing in life. "

Tikhanovskaya's headquarters said the candidate could have made her statement calling not to take to the streets under pressure. This was stated at a press conference by Tikhanovskaya's ally Maria Kolesnikova.

“Tikhanovskaya’s call not to go out on the streets could have been made under pressure. For three hours, Svetlana was in the same office of the CEC with two high-ranking officers of the security forces. This video message was recorded at that time, ”TASS quoted Kolesnikova as saying.

She noted that after Tikhanovskaya left for Lithuania, there was no connection with her, her plans were not known to the headquarters.

“I only know that she is safe, I know about two video messages. She hasn’t been able to get through yet, ”Kolesnikova said.

At the same time, the headquarters of Tikhanovskaya claims that the organization continues to work even after the departure of the candidate from Belarus. This was stated by the confidant of Tikhanovskaya Olga Kovalkova.

“Today the situation is critical, you can see from these two days, people take to the streets to defend their choice. We must renounce violence. We must defend the victory in legal, non-violent ways, because human life is the most valuable thing that we have and that the Belarusian authorities do not appreciate, ”RIA Novosti quotes her.

Meanwhile, the CEC of Belarus reported that Tikhanovskaya's complaint following the election was registered. Earlier, the candidate demanded to recognize the announced election results as invalid, and also called for a recount of votes or a repeat vote at a number of polling stations.

Against the backdrop of these events, mass protests have been taking place in Belarus for two days in a row, accompanied by clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement forces. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, over 2 thousand people were detained in different cities of Belarus over the past 24 hours. More than 20 law enforcement officers were injured.

On the first night of the riots, the number of detainees exceeded 3 thousand people, while 39 representatives of law enforcement agencies were injured.

To disperse the demonstrators, police officers, as well as detachments of special forces "Alpha" used special equipment. According to media reports, we are talking about rubber bullets, tear gas, stun grenades and water cannons. As Sputnik Belarus noted, riot policemen were bombarded with Molotov cocktails.

On the evening of August 10, it became known about the death of one of the demonstrators. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic reported this in its Telegram channel. The incident took place at about 23:00 Moscow time on Pritytsky Street in Minsk, where protesters were building barricades.

“During the confrontation with the special forces, who arrived to unblock the square, one of the protesters tried to throw an unidentified explosive device towards the law enforcement officers. It exploded in his hand, the man received injuries incompatible with life, ”the ministry said in a statement.

Detained Russian journalists

The Belarusian security forces on August 9 detained several Russian journalists, three of them have been released by now. Among the released media workers are Semyon Pegov, Anton Starkov and Dmitry Lasenko.

Three stringers of the Ruptly video agency are still detained, including one girl, as well as the photojournalist of the Rossiya Segodnya news agency Ilya Pitalev and Meduza employee Maxim Solopov.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the actions of the Belarusian authorities in relation to Russian journalists disproportionate. The editor-in-chief of the RT channel and MIA Rossiya Segodnya Margarita Simonyan, in turn, called for the release of Russian journalists and noted that the Belarusian security forces had no right to conduct such harsh detentions.
