The tragedy in Beirut continues to clean up the Lebanese political class. A second member of the government thus resigned Sunday. It must be said that the street does not release the pressure on the authorities while the explosion at the port of the capital on Tuesday left 158 dead and 6,000 injured according to an official report.

"A sterile diet"

A few hours after the resignation of the Minister of Information, Manal Abdel Samad, the Minister of Environment and Administrative Development, Damianos Kattar, also announced his departure. His choice is justified by “the enormous catastrophe (…) and (…) a sterile regime which missed many opportunities”.

Faced with the scale of the tragedy and the anger of the population, who for months demanded the departure of an entire ruling class accused of corruption, incompetence and negligence, the head of government, Hassan Diab, met several ministers during the day. Other resignations could therefore follow according to local media. The Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, for his part called a meeting of Parliament on Thursday "to question the government on the crime which struck the capital", according to the state news agency ANI. The Lebanese government is therefore more than ever in the hot seat.
