“Moscow was closely following the development of events during the entire election campaign in Belarus. Despite attempts by individual forces to organize large-scale protest actions after the completion of the voting, the authorities managed to prevent a dangerous escalation of the situation, ”the published commentary says.

They stressed that local and international observers registered for the elections, including those in the CIS mission, did not record "significant violations that could affect the election results."

“The current president A.G. Lukashenko, gaining over 82% of the votes, again receives a mandate of trust from the citizens of Belarus, ”the Russian ministry noted.

The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed confidence that "the choice made by the people of Belarus" will contribute to "strengthening friendship" between the two countries.

Earlier, Lukashenka said that the elections in Belarus were held as a holiday, but those who wanted to spoil it lit up even brighter.

The Investigative Committee of Belarus opened 21 criminal cases on the facts of riots after the presidential elections.
