Late in the evening on a weekday evening, a minibus with berry pickers arrives at the Swedish Road Administration's old premises in Fredrika. They are ready for the day, but everyone who jumps out of the car has a mouth guard and a plastic visor. One by one, they take the temp in the ear and wash and then spray their hands before they bring their full buckets to the room.

- We have promised the Thai authorities that hygiene will be respected, says Sylve Björkman who is CEO of Ransäter's invest, a carrier company based in Värmland that has pickers from Värmland in the south to Boden in the north.

Fewer pickers, more expensive jams

He says that in a normal year about 8,000 berry pickers come from Thailand, but this year it was only 2700. At the end of July, only 154 Thai berry pickers came to Fredrika and this can affect access to the end product, the jam.

- It can be a few kroner more expensive, Sylve Björkman thinks.

Other berry buyers SVT has been in contact with have the same picture, that there are fewer pickers who have come from Thailand. In addition, many people pick cloudberries and blueberries and sell them online.
