It was on the morning of Thursday that they came out of the house and saw a wolf in the sheep farm next door. The wolf was frightened on the run.

- They then first found a dead sheep and two injured, says Mikael Larsson, nature conservationist at the County Administrative Board in Uppsala County.

The two injured sheep were so badly affected that they had to be killed.

- They had nine sheep in total and all stroked. Of course it's not fun.

The pasture was fenced on three sides and the fourth was facing a stream, so that way the predators are believed to have entered the pasture.

Wolves from Siggeforareviret

The sheep were tore in the areas around Östfora, a few miles northeast of Uppsala. The County Administrative Board's theory is that the sheep were torn apart by a young wolf pair that formed a territory in the Siggefora area last winter. The wolves are descended from immigrant wolves in different parts of the country. Now they may have puppies. Previously, the wolf pair left traces of moose and fallow deer behind.

- The desire to hunt can take over at a time like this. But they are good wolves genetically for our wolf tribe so it's a shame if they intervene with a behavior like this. We hope that this was a one-time event and that they will take care of themselves in the future, says Mikael Larsson at the county administrative board.

However, the County Administrative Board now sees an increased risk of more attacks from wolves. They have issued a warning to pet owners in the area and call for increased caution.

- It is good to be vigilant, take in the animals at night or move them closer to the farm. It is also possible to get a grant to set up predator-adapted fences, says Mikael Larsson, nature conservationist.
