A miraculous outcome. A small twin-engine plane crashed early Monday afternoon near Orléans and its two passengers are only slightly injured, we learned from the Loiret prefecture.

Following an engine failure, the Cessna 340 crashed at 2.10 p.m. in the town of Vitry-aux-Loges (Loiret), east of Orleans. The two passengers who were on board are "slightly injured" and were admitted to the hospital of Orleans, the same source said.

The twin-engine had left Perpignan on Monday morning. The couple, aged 58 and 62, live in the town of Autry-le-Châtel, south-east of Orleans.

The accident sparked the start of a fire in the Vitry-aux-Loges forest area where five hectares had burned down. But "the wind being weak in the area", the firefighters should "be able to control the fire", according to the prefecture.
