In its press release published on Monday, August 10, the Directorate General of Health said it had recorded 785 new positive cases of Covid-19 in the space of 24 hours. By way of comparison, Italy recorded 259 more in one day. And if we go back to Friday, August 7, France has more than 4,800 new patients in the space of three days, as well as 16 additional deaths (30,340 in total since the start of the epidemic).

Since Sunday, 21 new clusters have appeared in the country. The number of patients in intensive care is also slightly increasing: they are 396, 13 more than Friday.

The President of the Republic will discuss this worrying health situation during the double Defense Council which is to be held by videoconference on Tuesday, August 11. The DGS, for its part, is particularly worried about an intensification of the circulation of the new coronavirus in the Parisian and Marseille metropolises.

The 20-40 year olds are mostly asymptomatic, but they infect the most vulnerable

In Île-de-France, the number of patients has continued to increase since mid-July, reaching nearly 500. An unprecedented trend since the deconfinement that occurred in mid-May. This increase has led to the imposition of masks outdoors in many suburban municipalities as well as in the busiest districts of Paris.

In Marseille, the second largest city in France, the mask is also now mandatory in three areas (Old Port, Cours Julien and Escale Borely), until August 30 inclusive, by prefectural decision. In Marseille, the level of vulnerability has gone from limited to moderate, ie the second level out of three. In the metropolitan areas of Paris and Marseille, it is in the 20-40 age group that the acceleration of contaminations is most evident, thanks to festive gatherings.

The prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhîne recalls that, in the majority of cases, these people are asymptomatic and infect their relatives, who are more vulnerable. Initially, police officers and mediators will be content to raise awareness among the public. But it won't last long. Failure to respect the wearing of a mask will very quickly be punished with a fine of at least 135 euros.
