On August 10, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked questions about the US sanctions on many Hong Kong Special Administrative Region officials and other related issues.

Zhao Lijian stated that the U.S. State Department and the Treasury Department announced sanctions on 11 Chinese central government departments and Hong Kong SAR officials on the grounds of so-called undermining of Hong Kong’s autonomy. The relevant actions of the U.S. blatantly intervened in Hong Kong affairs, grossly interfered in China’s internal affairs, and seriously violated international law and basic norms of international relations. China firmly opposes this and strongly condemns it.

Zhao Lijian announced that in response to the wrongdoings of the United States, China has decided to deal with the U.S. Senators Rubio, Cruz, Holly, Cotton, Tumi, Congressman Smith, and the U.S. National Democracy Council who have performed badly on Hong Kong-related issues. Foundation President Gershman, President of the American Association for the Democracy of International Affairs Midway, President of the American International Republican Institute Twenning, Executive Chairman of Human Rights Watch Ross, and President of Freedom House Abramowitz imposed sanctions.
