On Sunday afternoon, the police found a body in the water at Park Somerlust, a busy green area on the Amstel in Amsterdam. Specialists from the police had been there looking for a missing swimmer since Saturday evening.

The municipality decided to close the park on Sunday afternoon because visitors could not comply with the corona rules due to the crowds.

The police found the body after a so-called underwater search. Although part of the area was cordoned off to allow the police to do their job, visitors to Park Somerlust will have noticed the search.

It is not clear whether the park was closed before or after the body was found. A police spokesperson insists that Somerlust was closed by the municipality because of the corona rules, not because of the find.
