In Beirut, the Information Office of the Presidency of the Lebanese Republic confirmed, yesterday, that the demand for an international investigation into the issue of the Beirut Port explosion is aimed at wasting the truth.

The office said, in a press statement reported by the National Media Agency: “The Asas website published false information about the meeting of the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abu al-Gheit, and the media reported this information about Aoun’s position on Arab or international parties undertaking the investigation. In the big explosion in the port of Beirut ».

The office emphasized that "there is absolutely no truth to the story of the Asas website, because Aoun's position was expressed during the dialogue with the media on Friday, as it was considered that the demand for an international investigation into the port case was aimed at wasting the truth."

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Minister of Information, Manal Abdel Samad, announced yesterday her resignation from the Lebanese government, to be the first member of the Council of Ministers to leave office, days after the Beirut Port bombing. "After the horror of the Beirut disaster, I submit my resignation from the government, wishing our beloved country Lebanon to recover as soon as possible," Abdel Samad said in a speech broadcast by local media.

According to local media, Environment Minister Damianus Train resigned, while the Economy Minister is heading to resign as well. In his first comment, Kattar said: "My boyfriends are dead."

Abdel Samad's announcement comes after the resignation of five parliamentarians, three of whom represent the Phalange Party, which has been one of the strongest opponents of power for years, as well as the independent representative Paula Yaqoubian and Marwan Hamadeh, who is close to the Druze leader Walid Jumblatt.

For its part, the Lebanese Parliament will hold open sessions from next Thursday at the UNESCO Palace, to discuss the government about the Beirut port explosion. For his part, the Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Al-Rai called, during the Sunday sermon, for the government to resign.

He said, "The resignation of a deputy from here and a minister from there is not sufficient. Rather, in the sense of the feelings of the Lebanese and the grave responsibility, the government must reach the resignation as a whole, and early parliamentary elections should be held, instead of a council that has become unemployed."

He added, "What we have witnessed from the angry popular movements confirms the impatience of the oppressed and humiliated Lebanese people, and indicates the determination to change for the better."
