Lebanese Minister of Information apologizes and resigns "on air"

Lebanese Information Minister Manal Abdel Samad announced, a short while ago, her resignation in light of a crisis ravaging the country amid the repercussions of the massive explosion in the Beirut port, last Tuesday.

"I apologize to the Lebanese who were unable to fulfill their aspirations," the Lebanese Minister of Information said in a press conference. "Change remained elusive."

And she continued: I submit my resignation from the government, wishing for our beloved country Lebanon to recover as soon as possible, and to follow the path of unity, independence and prosperity.

She added that her resignation, which she submitted to Diab, came "after the horror of the disaster resulting from the Beirut earthquake, which shook the nation and the bloodiest hearts and minds, and bowed in front of the souls of the martyrs and the pain of the wounded, missing and displaced, and in response to the popular will for change."

The minister affirmed that the Lebanese prime minister "was following the files to the smallest detail, wisely and calmly, to meet the popular demands, especially those raised by the October 17 Revolution," noting that "change remained elusive."
