Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, August 9 - Hot spots Q & A: Maintaining and stable Sino-US relations which the United States must correct the error

Xinhua News Agency reporter Xie Lin

Recently, U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo and other U.S. politicians have frequently made anti-China remarks. The U.S. has taken a series of negative actions to undermine Sino-U.S. relations, resulting in an extremely complicated and severe situation in the relations between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations. On this occasion, US policymakers should face up to the voices of insights from all walks of life in the United States, listen to the appeals of all countries in the world, correct mistakes, change course, and work with China to work together to push Sino-US relations back to the track of healthy and stable development.

Hegemonism must be abandoned

Crudely intervening in Hong Kong affairs, openly intervening in disputes over territorial sovereignty in the South China Sea, listing the crimes of closing the Chinese Consulate General in Houston, forcing other countries to build 5G networks to obey the will of the United States, and extend their hands to the overseas version of Douyin... The world has shown what naked hegemonism is.

They claim to be "fair" over and over again, but plan and implement interference in the internal affairs of other countries; while promising to open the market and claim fair competition, they are engaged in "technological hegemony."

From Iran to Venezuela to Europe, the "long-arm jurisdiction" of the United States is rampant everywhere, harming the legitimate and legitimate rights and interests of other countries and undermining the economic and social development of other countries.

The comments of Stuart Patrick, a senior fellow of the American Diplomatic Association, hit the nail on the head: The U.S. government has replaced the rule of law with the "rule of the jungle," and U.S. hegemony has turned into a vicious hegemony.

Amru Mekdad, a Syrian expert on China issues, said that Sino-US relations continue to be tense and the responsibility rests solely with the US. Some U.S. politicians ignore international rules and disregard the long-standing mutual trust and cooperation between China and the United States, and try to conceal their failures in governance by suppressing China. This fully exposed the hegemonic nature of the United States.

Should not distort or deny history

In his speech, Pompeo made groundless accusations against China's domestic and foreign policies, claiming that "the US policy of engagement with China failed."

China’s development achievements today were not “given” by the US engagement policy, but achieved through the hard work of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. In recent years, the results of polls by many international organizations have shown that the Chinese people are satisfied with their choices-they trust the government more than 90%.

Pompeo's remarks also highlighted his ignorance of history. More than 40 years ago, the relationship between China and the United States opened a new page. The then-U.S. President Nixon once said that today we come together "not because we have common beliefs, but because we have common interests and common hope... Each of us has the hope that a new world order will be established, with differences but mutual respect."

Richard Haas, president of the American Diplomatic Association, pointed out the absurdity of Pompeo’s remarks: the problem is not only that the chief diplomat of the United States has no diplomatic strategy, but what’s worse is that he distorted history and failed to clarify a set of clear and practical logic. Ways to deal with the most influential bilateral relations of the current era.

In the view of Fu Limin, a former senior US diplomat, changing China's political system has never been the intention of the engagement policy. Pompeo's assertion that the failure of the US engagement policy with China is a complete distortion of history and reality.

Sino-US relations are facing a new international and domestic environment. In this context, the correct attitude to maintain and stabilize the relationship between the two countries should be to respect history, advance with the times, and carry forward the past, and should not distort, deny, or reverse history.

Need cooperation rather than confrontation

The United States has recently done two diametrically opposed things: on the one hand, it has been busy "breaking contracts and withdrawing from the group", making this administration the U.S. government with the largest number of withdrawals from international treaties; on the other hand, it has been busy "grouping" and instigating various so-called "alliances." , In a vain attempt to isolate China.

The German foreign policy website stated that for more than three years, a country that has been scornful of the multilateral system, its secretary of state is now calling for the establishment of a "broad anti-China alliance", which is really ironic.

Behind the bad behavior of the United States is its own country’s priority standards of conduct, pushing unilateralism and bullying to the extreme, and abandoning international responsibilities and multilateral rules. Cristina Bière, editor-in-chief of French newspaper "New Unity", said bluntly that at present, the United States' obstruction of coordination and cooperation among countries has become a dangerous factor in world peace and development.

From the victory in the anti-fascist war 75 years ago to today's COVID-19 test, it has been proved that mankind is a community with a shared future and has common responsibilities and needs to work together to meet challenges. China-US relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in the world today. The choices China and the US make today will not only affect the relations between the two countries, but also the future of the world. The United States must realize that world peace and stability require cooperation, not confrontation, between the United States and China.

Whether to divide the world by ideological confrontation, or to transcend the differences of different systems to build a community with a shared future for mankind, I believe that countries and nations with independent judgment will choose to stand on the right side of history.
