The donors ’conference to aid Lebanon was launched after the bombing of the devastated Beirut port, with calls to speed up the aid of the country in overcoming the repercussions of the disaster, which created huge human and material losses estimated at billions of dollars.

French President Emmanuel Macron said in his speech delivered on Sunday at the opening of the video conference that aid will reach Lebanon's civil society as quickly as possible, with the participation of the International Monetary Fund and financial and international institutions.

Macron added that aid should go directly to where people need it on the ground.

The French President called on the authorities in Lebanon to carry out the political and economic reforms demanded by the people, warning that the country would be dominated by chaos and violence.

For his part, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said that the needs are very great and must be met before winter, stressing the necessity that the management of the donation fund that will be established emanates from the conference called by France.

He added that what Lebanon was subjected to came in the midst of multiple crises, which made confronting its repercussions beyond the country's capacity, as he put it.

He also said that he committed himself before the Lebanese people to achieving justice for the victims of the Beirut Port bombing, stressing that no one is above the law, and that whoever is proven involved in the investigation will be held accountable in accordance with Lebanese laws.

As for the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, he told the donors conference that Lebanon cannot overcome this crisis on its own, and announced that his country will contribute $ 50 million to help Lebanon, explaining that in the coming days he will announce his contribution to the reconstruction of Beirut.
