US President Donald Trump announced that he is preparing to sign a presidential decree on an economic support plan for Americans who are facing difficulties due to the emerging corona virus, despite continuing negotiations between his administration and Democratic leaders in Congress on a new spending plan.

In response to a question about when he would sign the decree, Trump replied "at the end of the week", stating that "the lawyers are drafting it now."

But he also said that his economic team "continues to work in good faith to reach agreement with Democrats in Congress" on a relief plan that includes unemployment benefits and protection from eviction.

"If the Democrats continue to take this sensitive aid hostage, I will use my presidential powers to give Americans the relief they need," Trump said at a press conference at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said her party agreed to reduce the relief amount from three trillion to two trillion dollars, but the White House continues to refuse to provide assistance to state and local governments, which economists see is necessary to avoid a new layoff.

"I told them to come back when you're ready to give us a higher number," Pelosi told reporters after an hour-long meeting with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
