08 August 2020The European Commission requests the activation of SURE for over 28 billion euros. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Roberto Gualtieri, and the Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Nunzia Catalfo, read a note, have sent to Brussels the letter with which the Italian Government formally requests the activation of SURE ( Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency), the tool put in place by the European Commission to mitigate the unemployment risks due to the Covid19 emergency.

In the letter, addressed to Commissioners Dombrovskis, Gentiloni, Schmit and Hahn, the Italian Government asks to be able to access the resources of SURE to the extent of 28,492 million euros, an amount justified by the measures that have been implemented to protect workers' incomes during the crisis as indicated in the reporting table and in the provisional assessment of their eligibility by the relevant Commission services.

For Catalfo and Gualtieri it is a positive example of solidarity between Member States and in favor of European workers.
