Chinanews, August 8th, a comprehensive report that on the evening of the 7th local time, an Air India Express passenger plane ran off the runway and broke into two when it landed in heavy rain. The accident has killed at least 17 people and injured more than a hundred people.

The Hindustan Times reported that the plane (Boeing 737) was flown from Dubai to Kalipur to pick up Indian nationals trapped there due to the new crown pneumonia epidemic from Dubai.

  According to reports, the incident occurred at about 19:40 that night at Kazhikode International Airport in Karipur, Kerala, southern India. The live broadcast of the local TV station showed that the rain was heavy in the airport area at the time of the incident, and the plane broke into two pieces after rushing out of the runway. Aircraft wreckage was scattered everywhere on the runway. Fortunately, there was no fire at the scene of the accident, which avoided more casualties.

  According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation of India, the Boeing 737 passenger plane with flight number IX1344 flew the route from Dubai, UAE to Calicut, India on the same day, and was responsible for transporting back home the Indian nationals stranded in Dubai due to the coronavirus. It is reported that the plane was carrying 184 passengers, including 10 babies, two pilots and several crew members.

  India’s New Delhi television reported that the accident caused at least 17 deaths, including two pilots. The authorities said that after nearly three hours of rescue operations, all the people on board had been evacuated and at least 112 wounded were taken to the hospital. The Hindustan Times reported that the accident has caused 20 deaths and more than 150 people have been sent to hospital.

The plane was broken into two pieces, and there were debris around it. There was no fire at the scene of the accident.

  Ibrahim, the passenger who survived the accident, said, “The pilot issued a warning before landing that the weather was really bad. He tried to land safely twice, but (the plane) lost control.” He also said, “For many Humanly speaking, this is a miraculous escape."

  Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on his social media that day that I feel sad about this matter and hope that the injured can recover soon. I have also exchanged the situation with the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarai Vijayan, and the government will provide assistance to those affected by the accident at the scene.

  Arun Kumar, Director of the General Administration of Civil Aviation of India, said the plane did not land correctly. The rescue operation is underway, and we are also investigating the specific cause of the accident.

  The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. According to reports, the passenger plane encountered heavy rain when landing, bad weather or the main reason for the plane's loss of control. Another source said that there was a problem with the landing gear when the airliner landed.
