A Mozambican explosives company has confirmed that the ammonium nitrate that exploded in Beirut was ordered by it. A spokesman for Fabrica de Explosivos Mocambique (FEM) told CNN that ammonium nitrate was to be used to make explosives. The explosives were to go to mining companies in Mozambique.
Mozambican authorities had on Thursday night denied knowing about any ship carrying ammonium nitrate. According to the authorities, the final destination of the cargo was not Mozambique but Zimbabwe or Zambia.
