The Syrian embassy in Beirut announced that 43 Syrians were among the dead in the explosion that rocked the port of Beirut last Tuesday, pointing out that the toll is not final.

The embassy said in a statement today: "In continuation of our efforts to follow up on the conditions of the Syrian citizens affected by the horrific explosion that struck Beirut port, the embassy has provided all facilities to transport the bodies of some of the martyrs to Syria and help bury others in Lebanon."

The embassy affirmed, "it undertakes the necessary efforts in coordination with the concerned authorities in the Lebanese Republic to search for the missing persons, especially since this issue receives direct attention from the Syrian leadership, which has directed it to provide all possible forms of assistance."

The embassy once again expressed its deepest sympathy to the families of the Syrian and Lebanese martyrs, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded citizens of the two brotherly countries and all the citizens of other countries affected. ".
